Marketing Innovation: Don’t Try This at Home

A New York City marketing businessman, Anand Khubani, has come up with an out-of-the-box, fun, real estate marketing idea.  He put a 60-foot screen of what the completed rehabbed facade would look like on the front of an Upper East Side Historic District townhouse. Mr. Khubani is famous for his “as-seen-on-TV” advertising. This may account for his idea for a bold marketing move. Imagine walking down East 66th street in Manhattan and seeing a screened image of a building facade from basement to roof!

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a super facade!

Apparently, the current red brick facade with plain casement windows on this 20-foot-wide townhouse put a damper on the imagination of Mr. Khubani’s interested buyers. He wanted to help buyers envision the rehab potential of this multi-million dollar townhouse, so he came up with the idea of putting up the screen to show the building’s approved facade.

The townhouse is situated between two classical high-styled townhouses. The new facade design for the building was considered by the historic commission to be in keeping with the surrounding homes in the district. Yet, by the time the facade design was approved by the commission housing prices began to slide. This made it difficult for Mr. Khubani to find a buyer. The townhouse at 56 East 66th St. on Manhattan’s Upper East Side has been on the market since 2015.
