An invasive plant is a species non-native to the ecosystem. Whether accidental or intentional, they will cause harm to the environment, economy and/or human health. Invasive plants grow rapidly and spread quickly. They have few diseases and are difficult to control.
Once invasive plants are established they are extremely difficult to get rid of. Cutting, mowing or using a contact herbicide will usually not kill well established plants. Non chemical control of well established, deep rooted plants will require digging up the entire root system or repeatedly cutting the top growth over several years.
