Hidden Valley Preserve has 17 miles of low to moderate to high hiking trails. The Thoreau Bridge connects hikers to numerous trails including paths along an old railroad bed, past a former quartz quarry and up to overlooks.
Spruce Brook Falls is rated as a moderate 2-3 mile hike. Beautiful waterfalls in the beauty, ruggedness and wilderness of the Naugatuck State Forest.
Spiderweed Preserve is a 3 mile moderate hike. The partial remains of Helen Lohman’s home still stand. There are several overlooks and rocky ledges with views.
Pine Mountain is a moderate 2 mile round trip. The trail is named in honor of Charles E. Ives who had a cabin near the top o f Pine Mountain. The 268 acre reserve is Ridgefield’s highest point.
Al’s Trail is a low to moderate hike. The Newtown Trailway runs through the heart of Newtown and Sandy Hook for 11 miles from Deep Brook Preserve north through Rocky Glen State Park to Upper Paugusett State Park.
